Background of the Study
Occupational stress is a common phenomenon in healthcare settings, where nurses often face high-pressure environments, emotional strain, long working hours, and physical demands. Stress in the workplace can lead to burnout, reduced job satisfaction, increased absenteeism, and even physical and mental health issues. In nursing, stress can affect decision-making, patient care, and overall performance (Adeyemi et al., 2024). Nurses are exposed to various stressors, including the emotional toll of patient care, difficult working conditions, and the high expectations placed on them in busy hospital settings.
At Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, nurses work in a high-demand environment that may expose them to significant occupational stress. However, the level of knowledge among nurses regarding stress management techniques and their ability to address occupational stress may be inadequate. Effective management of occupational stress is crucial for maintaining a healthy workforce and ensuring the delivery of quality patient care. This study seeks to investigate the knowledge of nurses regarding occupational stress, the management strategies they employ, and the challenges they face in managing stress in the workplace.
Statement of the Problem
Occupational stress is a significant issue among nurses in many healthcare settings, including Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti. While stress is an inherent part of the nursing profession, inadequate knowledge of stress management techniques and insufficient institutional support could exacerbate the negative effects of stress on nurses' well-being. If occupational stress is not effectively managed, it could lead to burnout, impaired job performance, and compromised patient care. This study aims to explore nurses' knowledge and management of occupational stress and identify ways to support nurses in minimizing the impact of stress on their health and professional practice.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on nurses working at Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, and will assess their knowledge of occupational stress, the management strategies they employ, and the challenges they face. It will not include other healthcare professionals such as physicians or administrative staff, although they may also experience stress in the workplace.
Limitations of the study include the potential for bias in self-reported data and the inability to generalize the findings to other healthcare facilities.
